Labs: what we build when nobody asked us to

There’s a question that has followed me around for years, every time we wrap up a client project: why does this industry keep solving the same problems badly?

I’m not talking about one-off mistakes. I’m talking about the friction we all recognize and, for some reason, keep carrying: the financial audit that lives inside an endless spreadsheet, uptime monitoring that feels more complicated than the server it’s watching, business knowledge that only exists inside one person’s head, a calendar that depends on crossed WhatsApp messages, a photographer who delivers an album and forgets to update their own portfolio, a company blog nobody has time to write, an online store that ends up looking just like the competition’s because it runs on the same template everyone uses.

None of these problems are new. None are unique to a specific client. And none are fully solved by what already exists on the market — at least not in a way that feels simple.

So, between client projects, we started building our own answers. Not for a client. Not on a deadline negotiated in a meeting. Just because the problem was still there, bothering us, and we had the hands to try to fix it.

That’s Labs.

Software built with no client to convince

Labs is the section of Núcleo Studio where our own software lives: products born from the accumulated frustration of seeing the same problem over and over across different businesses, which we decided to solve for ourselves first. Today there are seven tools, each at a different point in its journey: one already live, five in beta, and one still under construction.

That changes how something gets built. When there’s no client to convince and no deadline to negotiate, what’s left is the most honest question in product: does this actually work, or does it just look good in a deck? Each of the tools below answers that question from a real problem we saw up close.

Fine-ance — your money, audited, without a single spreadsheet (beta)

Bookkeeping at many small and mid-sized businesses still lives inside spreadsheets that only one person understands, held together by fragile formulas that break the moment someone edits the wrong cell. Fine-ance grew out of that fragility: a way to audit and track the business’s money without depending on a file no one else dares to touch.

ATBaby! — uptime monitoring, without the drama (live)

Checking whether a site or service is still up shouldn’t require a dashboard as complex as the system it’s monitoring. ATBaby! is built for that gap between what you actually need to know (“is it still alive?”) and everything most monitoring tools make you configure before they’ll tell you. It has already graduated from beta and runs live — proof that this process of listening and adjusting actually leads somewhere finished.

Memento Vault — someday someone will want to ask you something, leave the answer written down (beta)

The operational knowledge of almost any business lives in the heads of two or three people. When those people aren’t around, the answer simply doesn’t exist. Memento Vault is our attempt to fix that: a place to write down what today only lives in memory, before it’s needed and no longer there.

Agenda Citara — your calendar, open 24/7, you with your afternoons free (beta)

Coordinating appointments through back-and-forth messages is one of those tasks that eats time without creating any value. Agenda Citara exists so availability doesn’t depend on watching your phone, giving back the afternoons that currently disappear into confirming schedules.

Sin Rollo — photo delivery that also keeps your portfolio current (beta)

Photographers deliver work constantly, but their own portfolio rarely reflects their latest work, because updating it is a separate task. Sin Rollo merges both: delivering photos to the client becomes, with no extra effort, a portfolio update.

Vo.Bo.rrador — your blog doesn’t stop, you just give the go-ahead (under construction)

We all know an active blog helps, and almost nobody has the time to write one with the consistency it needs. Vo.Bo.rrador starts from that: content gets generated, and all that’s left is your sign-off before it publishes. It’s the newest of the seven and still under construction, but we wanted you to know it’s coming.

Reactor Store — an e-commerce engine, with your brand on top (beta)

Setting up an online store almost always means choosing between a generic template that looks like everyone else’s or custom development that takes months. Reactor Store aims for the middle ground: a solid e-commerce engine with your brand’s identity on top, not the same old template wearing a brand as a disguise.

A quick map of where everything stands

Of the seven tools, ATBaby! has already graduated and runs live. Five — Fine-ance, Memento Vault, Agenda Citara, Sin Rollo, and Reactor Store — are in open beta. And Vo.Bo.rrador is still under construction, so for now you can only get to know the concept.

I want to be clear about the five that are in beta: we’re not leaving them there to cover ourselves or to generically lower expectations. We’re saying it because it’s exactly where they are, and because we need something from the people who use them that no internal team can give us: an outside perspective.

We know why we built each product. What we don’t know for certain is whether the way we solved it is the way you need it solved. That difference only shows up with real use — someone opening the tool with their own problem and running into what already works and what doesn’t yet. ATBaby! already went through that process and is live today; that’s the path we want for the rest.

That’s why Labs isn’t a showcase of finished products. It’s closer to a workshop with the door open: you can walk in, try what’s on the table, and tell us what’s missing, what’s unnecessary, or what simply doesn’t make sense yet. That feedback is exactly what will sharpen each tool’s value proposition until it stops being a beta.
